What the climb is like
The first kilometres are the steepest, with long ramps above 10 percent before the first hairpin. The gradient then settles into a steady rhythm between the bends, and each hairpin gives a few metres of flatter road to recover on.
How to ride it in Pedalsim
Alpe d'Huez is one of Pedalsim's built-in famous routes: open it from the button below, or under Famous routes in the app, and ride. Your trainer reproduces every change in its gradient as you climb, and the wind is the live weather at the climb, so a headwind on an exposed section feels like one.
Go easy on the opening ramps. Riders who start too hard pay for it on the middle hairpins, where the gradient never really lets up.
Figures are approximate: sources measure the climb from slightly different points.
